AUTO LIABILITY

This type of insurance coverage is helpful in covering the costs of the other driver’s property and bodily injuries if you have been found the person to be at fault in an accident.

This auto liability coverage definition may sound simple, but here’s a real-life example to further make your understanding better.

Suppose you are at a four-way stop which is located a few blocks away from your house. As you have taken this route hundreds of times, you don’t pay enough attention to notice that it is the other car’s turn to go – until it’s too late. The next thing you know; you have smashed into the car in the middle of the intersection. At this point, your insurance company will work with the other driver’s insurance company to determine who is at fault. Even if you have been at fault, there is nothing to worry about if you have a liability insurance, because your insurance provider will cover costs for the driver’s damaged car, minus your deductible, and up to your covered limit.

What does auto liability insurance cover?

There are two types of liability coverages which come under this insurance:

  • Bodily Injury: This liability protection applies to the medical expenses of the other party if you are found at fault in the accident. In some circumstances, it may even cover lost wages and/or legal fees if the injured party files a lawsuit.

  • Property damage: This liability protection applies to damages to any kind of property resulting from a covered accident in which you’re at fault. It may cover the other party’s vehicle repair or replacement costs, as well as other property that may have been damaged in the accident, such as fences, structures, phone poles and other types of property.

*Minimum liability limits for each of these coverage types vary depending on which state you live in. Liability coverage cannot be used to pay for your vehicular damage or personal injury costs. For that, you will need comprehensive and/or collision coverage.

Do I need auto liability insurance?

Yes. A certain amount of liability insurance is required in all states – this is often referred to as “minimum coverage.” Although, the coverage types and amounts vary from state to state; all states require property damage liability (PD) and bodily injury (BI) protection. Some states also require personal injury protection insurance, uninsured or underinsured motorist protection and/or property protection. You can opt for a larger amount than the minimum required by your state, depending on your needs.

Just think of liability insurance as the baseline for auto coverage. Collision coverage and comprehensive coverage – not to mention other optional coverages like workers compensations, and personal injury protection until you have adequate liability insurance.

If you don’t have liability insurance, it’s important that you get it as soon as possible to meet your state’s minimum insurance requirement. Take the first step and start your auto liability insurance quote online with AIA.

COLLISION COVERAGE

There is a lot of confusion that comes around Collision and Comprehensive insurance. Nothing to worry about, we have some information regarding these two.

  • Collision insurance covers damages to your vehicle caused in a collision (accident).

  • Collision insurance pays even if you were the party at fault which led to a damage to your car.

  • The recommended amount of Collision coverage varies depending on the age and value of your vehicle.

  • Comprehensive insurance is also known as “other than collision” insurance or “OTC”. It covers damage done to your vehicle from things other than collisions, such as: vandalism, disasters, theft, fire, impacts with animals, etc.

  • Comprehensive does not cover any damage as a result of a collision.

  • If you live in a high crime area, have a newer model vehicle, or a vehicle that is a common target of theft, then this insurance is highly recommended.

WHY BUY COLLISION COVERAGE?

If you owe money on your car, or if you’re leasing it, collision coverage usually isn’t optional; most lenders and lease holders require it. If your car is paid off, however, you can choose whether to buy collision coverage.

One thing to consider: How much it would cost to repair or replace your vehicle if it were damaged or destroyed in an accident? If you couldn’t afford to fix your car or buy a new one after a wreck, purchasing collision coverage could give you some peace of mind.

MOTOR TRUCK CARGO

Motor Truck Cargo insurance  provides insurance on the freight or commodity hauled by a For-hire trucker. It covers your liability for cargo that is lost or damaged due to causes such as fire, collision, or striking of a load.

Who needs motor truck cargo insurance?

A growing number of risk managers require truckers to insure their cargo. You can meet that requirement with Motor Truck Cargo Insurance. It pays when you are responsible for damage to or loss of the cargo due to fire, collision or even hitting or running over the cargo that you transport on behalf of a client.

WORKER COMPENSATION

What is Workers Compensation Insurance?

“Workers’ compensation is a form of insurance providing wage replacement and medical benefits to employees injured in the course of employment in exchange for the employee’s right to sue his or her employer for negligence.”
